Engineering Synthesis Design, Inc. (ESDI) Opens European Office

ESDI is pleased to announce the opening of ESDI Europe, a sales and technical support center located in Antony, France. The ESDI Europe office will serve and support ESDI’s rapidly expanding European customer base.

Bruno Berton, a long time affiliate of both ESDI and ADE Phase Shift, will be managing the new office. He brings a wealth of sales, support and technical expertise to the ESDI team. Berton has been involved with optics, interferometry and metrology through-out his illustrious career. His in-depth understanding of metrology applications and customer requirements will greatly benefit ESDI’s European customer base.

New Product: Intellium™ PDI with HyperPhase™

A new version of the Intellium™ PDI (Point Diffraction Interferometer) is now equipped with ESDI’s HyperPhase™ module for vibration-insensitive real-time wavefront acquisition. This new instrument allows high speed measurements of moving objects and atmospheric analysis. ESDI is delivering its first system to Northrop Grumman in May, 2007.

First Intellium™ H2000 installation in China

Intellium™ H2000 is the first Intellium™ vibration-insensitive 100 mm Fizeau interferometer to be accepted in China. ESDI completed a successful instrument installation at Xi'an Institute of Optics and Precision Mechanics in the week of April 2, 2007. Chinese institutions set high standards for the technology they are using and they carefully studied several available technologies from other world-class suppliers before they made their purchase decision. This achievement recognizes ESDI’s Intellium™ H2000 as the highest performance vibration-insensitive Fizeau interferometer on the market.

New Product: Intellium™ Z100 1064

After the recent release of the Intellium™ Z100HR (High-Resolution) model for mild aspheric optics, the Intellium™ Z100 is also available with the 1064 nm wavelength. The Intellium™ Z100 1064 uses a high resolution camera allowing it to measure highly aberrated parts at 1064 nm with the same performance of the standard Intellium™ Z100.

New Product: Intellium™ Z100HR

A major step up in aspheric optics measurement, Intellium™ Z100HR is the highest resolution 100mm Fizeau interferometer available on the market. The high resolution camera of 1.5kx2k pixels allows this instrument to measure large slope angles in transmission and reflection. This new model of the Intellium™ Z100 maintains the compactness of its original design; making it the smallest in its class. It can be easily mounted and integrated into larger systems and is compatible with standard 100mm Fizeau interferometer accessories.

New Product: CaliBall™

CaliBall™, extremely round and perfect, is a 25.4mm diameter silicon nitride ball and kinematics mount used to calibrate phase-measuring interferometers by determining the errors in the transmission-sphere reference surface. The CaliBall™ is randomly positioned with its center at the focus of the interferometer transmission sphere and aligned to better than one fringe. The calibration can be done in as little as 10 minutes and the result is difficult to dispute. It works with any brand/make of transmission sphere and can be used to qualify a wide range of transmission spheres with F/#s ranging from F/0.7 to F/11 or beyond.

New Product: MiniScatR™

A compact motorized optical system for scattering characterization of any kind of material. MiniScatR™ allows fast and easy measurement of luminous energy distribution in 3D, and spectral composition contained in the scattering hemisphere. It can be used to characterize surface properties such as roughness and defects of specular and diffuse surfaces. Moreover, the system measures BRDF/BDTF. MiniScatR can be used with specular surfaces, diffuse surfaces, diffractions gratings, etched surfaces, powders, liquids, and multilayer films.

New Product: Quantum 5

The Quantum 5 scatterometer measures 3D scattered or radiated light in real-time at 0.2 degrees resolution over the entire hemisphere (or sphere) in 60 milliseconds with a dynamic range of 16000:1. Applications include measurement of high speed events such as particle detection/characterization and biomedical imaging.

New Product: Intellium™ Z40

A 40mm phase-shifting Fizeau interferometer with a small footprint (140mm x 165mm x 254mm) and is extremely lightweight (7.25kg). This full featured interferometer includes a true HeNe laser source (632nm), zoom 1x-6x, focus +/- 1.5m, and intensity control. It measures flats from 0.5mm to 40mm, and spheres from 0.5mm to large telescope optics. A wide range of accessories is available.

New Product: Intellium™ Z100

The Intellium™ Z100 is a non-contact measurement metrology tool for flat, spherical, and transmitted wavefront measurement of optical components and assemblies. It measures glass, plastic optical components, lenses, prisms, precision metal components, bearings, sealing surfaces, polished ceramics, and contact lens molds.

The Intellium™ Z100 has a modular structure allowing it to be setup in many configurations. The interferometer is compatible with a wide variety of accessories for 100mm Fizeau interferometers from other manufacturers (i.e. Zygo™, Wyko™, Jenoptik™, CVI™). The Intellium™ Z100 can be configured as a basic visual fringe inspection system, a phase-modulated high-resolution measurement system, or a vibration-insensitive acquisition system featuring IntelliPhase™ instantaneous spatial phase-shifting.

The new Intellium™ PDI is a state-of-the-art point diffraction interferometer that generates its own reference spherical wavefront using a pinhole in a waveplate.
